Gretchen R. Rich of 187 Old Nottingham Road, Epping, NH, passed away on March 7, 2010 at the age of 53 after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband and partner of 28 years, Daniel Fenno, her mother, Virginia Remington Rich of Slingerlands, NY, and sister, Pamela Amari and family of Dover, NH, as well as her beloved dogs. She graduated from Bethlehem Central (NY) High School, received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of New Hampshire, and a Masters of Science in Hydrogeology from Wright State University. During her university education, she studied a semester in England and studied aboard the research vessel Westward from the Sea Education Association out of Woods Hole. She was a consulting environmental scientist for many years, was licensed as a professional geologist in New Hampshire, and was employed most recently by the Department of Environmental Services in Concord, NH. She was an avid dog trainer, competing successfully in obedience trials, agility trials, and hunt tests with her Labrador Retrievers. In her spare time she loved skiing, gardening, beekeeping, the outdoors, and restoration of her 1800's home, including the building of a post and beam barn. A memorial service will be held in the Spring while the daffodils are blooming. Memorial donations may be sent to the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01850.
