Memorial for Mary Murphy

Born in Boston, MA on Oct. 5, 1950
Departed on Nov. 15, 2012 and resided in Fremont, NH.
Service: Private Service

Our beloved wife, mother, nana, aunt and sister, Mary Evelyn (Call) Murphy, 62, of Fremont, died on Nov. 15 at Exeter Hospital, following a long illness.
Born on Oct. 5, 1950 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel Call. She grew up in the city, graduating from Hyde Park High School in 1968. She married Douglas W. Murphy, her high school sweetheart, and moved first to Belmont, Mass., then Amesbury, Mass., before finally moving to Fremont in 1976.
Mary worked in the "steno pool" at Boston Gas in the 1960s, then stopped working full-time to raise three children, while always working part-time at something. She then went back to full-time work, starting in the late 1980s, as an executive assistant and secretary at various companies and school districts, including Ellis Elementary School in Fremont, Timberlane Regional High School in Plaistow, and Exeter High School in Exeter.
All her life, Mary loved making things with her hands, from ceramic decorations that filled our home every holiday season to wooden, hand-painted decorations to lapel pins. Most recently, in semi-retirement, she turned that interest into a business, Country Cottage Crafts, which she operated out of her home and extended into the community through a shop in Kittery, Maine, and via Etsy online.
She will be remembered as a gentle, kind, generous person, doting on her granddaughters, and indulging her passion for cooking. She was always working away at something, while being entertained by celebrity chefs on television.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Douglas W. Murphy, of Fremont; her three sons, Justin Murphy and his wife Kristen of Fremont, Chad Murphy and his wife Elizabeth of Manchester, and Sean Murphy and his wife Michelle of North Berwick, Maine; grandchildren Kaitlyn Mae Murphy of Fremont, and Amelia Call Murphy of Manchester; her sisters, Eileen Kushmerek and her husband Edward of Peabody, Mass. And Rita (Call) Quirk of Lanesboro, Mass.; her brothers, Lawrence Call and his wife Mary of Hernando, Fla., and William Call and his wife Pat of Milford, Mass., and Robert E. Call of Braintree, Mass. She was predeceased by her brothers, Arthur and Joseph Call, and her parents, Arthur and Hazel Call. Many nieces and nephews
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private. There will be no burial. Brewitt Funeral Home, at 9 Pleasant St., Epping, is handling arrangements for the family. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, N.H. 03101.
