Madeleine Jean Wharf, 88, of Epping, NH, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2017, at Rockingham County Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of Thomas Joseph Wharf who passed away in May 1975, and the daughter of the late Alphonse & Marion (Venee) Lessard. Born in Disraeli Parish in Quebec, Canada, Madeleine and her family moved to Lynn, MA when she was six months old. She was raised in Lynn and was educated in the local Lynn public school system. She worked for years at the General Electric Plant before marrying her sweetheart, Tom, in 1959. They moved to Brentwood, NH to raise their family. Tom tragically passed away young and Madeleine raised their children alone from then on. Tom was the love of her life and she never remarried. Family meant everything to Madeleine and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother, her children loved her deeply. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they grew up and they will always have those wonderful memories.

Madeleine is survived by her three children and their spouses; Thomas Wharf and Sandy Ahearn of Epping, NH; Timothy and Lisa Wharf of Exeter, NH; and Madeleine and Peter Wasiewski of Exeter, NH. She also leaves three beloved grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Christine Wasiewski, of Misawa AFB, Japan; Gregory Wasiewski of Mildenhall AFB in London, England; and Allison Wasiewski of Exeter, NH; and one beloved great-grandchild, Caden Wasiewski, of Misawa AFB, Japan.

Madeleine was from a large family. She leaves behind her sister Theresa McGrath of Lynn. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Lucien Lessard, Hertel Lessard, Arthur Lessard, Alphonse Lessard, Irene Gosseline, Blanche Chainey, Lina Gentleman, Delia Beaulieu and Simone Cunningham. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Raymond Lessard.


Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2-4 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saugus, MA at a later date.
