Sandra Ellen Whitcomb "Sandy", 71, died April 23, 2017 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. She was born June 12, 1945 in Lebanon, NH, daughter of the late Irvine and Elsa (Booth) Whitcomb.

Sandy grew up in Candia, NH. She graduated from Plymouth State College and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in early education. Sandy taught elementary school in Exeter, NH and at the Noble School District in Berwick, ME. She also worked in remedial education at the Oyster River and Dover school systems and taught adult education courses in Dover. She was currently a longtime resident of Candia and she was formerly of Durham, Dover and Lee.

Sandy was a member of the Candia Historical Society, Candia Heritage Society and volunteered at the Swap Shop Candia Recycling Center. Her hobbies included gardening and antiquing. She was an avid animal lover and was very fond of cats.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Rebecca (Murphy) Shackford of Dover, NH.

A visiting hour will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond, NH. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Holbrook Cemetery, Candia, NH
