Gertrude M. Brown, died July 24, 2010 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH after a period of failing health.
She was born December 24, 1919 in Portsmouth, NH, daughter of the late Clinton H. and Lena (Hamel) Durant.
Gertrude graduated from Hampton Academy, Class of 1938. She married Norman E. Marston and they settled in Stratham, NH to begin raising their family.
Gertrude was very active with local organizations as she was an active member of the Stratham Community Church, Unity Club, Pilgrim Guild, Winnicutt Grange, Stratham Historical Society, and the Hampton Academy and Winnicunnet High School Alumni Association.
She was pre deceased by her first husband, Norman E. Marston who died in 1987, and her second husband, Harry E. Brown who died in 2003.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Carol Rogers of Stratham, NH and her son, Norman Marston of Brookfield, NH, 5 sisters, Ethel Small of Seabrook, NH, Grace Brown of Kensington, NH, Martha Janvrin of Glen, NH, Mildred Cote of Dover, NH, and June Chase of Amesbury, MA., 3 brothers, Hollis Durant of Stratham, NH, Arthur Durant of Hampton, NH, and Robert Durant of Hampton Falls, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
Pre deceased by brothers, Russell Durant, Walter Durant and Richard Durant.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St. Exeter, NH.
Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, 119 Winnicutt Rd., Stratham, NH 03885.
