Nottingham, NH

Wendell Edmund Sweetser, Sr. age 87 of Nottingham, NH passed away peacefully, at home, on 30 July 2010 with his family by his side. Wendell was born on 16 February 1923, in Chelsea, Ma., to Harold Chapin Sweetser and Jennie (Mann) Sweetser.

He is survived by his devoted wife Dianne Sweetser of Nottingham, NH; five children, Wendell, Jr. and Sandy Sweetser of Huntington, WV, Kenneth and Janet Sweetser of Epsom, NH, Mark and Denise Sweetser of Stratham, NH, David Sweetser and Sharon Lang-Sweetser of Nottingham, NH, and Janet (Sweetser) and Rollin Rumford of Exeter, NH; a sister Gwen (Sweetser) Jensen of Bradenton, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Reagan and Colby Sweetser, Wesley Sweetser, Jody Farnham, Joshua Sweetser, Samantha Sweetser, Sarah Lang-Sweetser, Alysha Rumford, Nathan Rumford, Timothy Lang-Grannan, Dana Lang-Grannan; 5 great-grand children, Jacob and Justin Farnham, Sophia and Grant Sweetser, Alex Conner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife Doris (Milam) Sweetser and second wife Merlene (Hemeon) Sweetser.

He retired from 35 years of service at Raytheon Company employed as an industrial engineer. Prior to his work at Raytheon, Wendell taught dairy science at Essex Agricultural College, in Danvers, Ma.

Wendell served in the US Navy during WWII, deployed to the South Pacific theatre.

He was an active member of the Fellowship in Christ Church and later, Burning Heart Ministries.

Wendell spent his retired years as a gentleman farmer in Nottingham and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.

The Sweetser family appreciates the excellent services provided by the Rockingham VNA and Hospice of Exeter.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 10 AM at the funeral home.
