I don't know where to start. There are so many things I've been thinking of writing, but none seem to be able to express all that I truly feel. I miss you Herbie. So much. You took me under your wing and treated me like family right from the beginning. I cherish our talks we had, you had a way of smoothing out all the wrinkles and making me realize that I didn't need to get so uptight about a lot of things that weren't really worth worrying about. You believed in me, loved my children, taught your children and grandchildren to love, respected your wife, among so many other things, you are a wonderful man. The best Father-In-Law anyone could want. I know you hold our Ella right this minute, and I'm crying tears of sadness and happiness at the same time as I write this because I miss you, and I know you were saddened terribly when she passed on as we all were so torn apart, and you are happily holding her now. Your in our thoughts daily Herbie, we miss you. Give my baby girl lots of hugs, kisses and snuggles for me. Love, Annette

Dear Dad,
It has taken me along time to write this. You welcomed me into your family 12 years ago and what a welcome it was.! You taught me things about the work you and Chuck did, you cared about my children and treated them as your own grand children - not something many men do. You taught me life, the joy, the caring, your sense of humor, the crooked grin when you gave me a hard time and did it on purpose, the brothers and Becky that I will love always, and Ma with all her chapters of stories, all things I can pass down in your name.As time grew on,I was so happy to be able to take care of you - I only hope that I did enough so that you could enjoy your family to the end. I'm just sorry the end came to soon. I wasn't ready. I still had a lot to learn from you. And know that I will be here for Ma and the rest of the family in any way they want me. I love you and will miss you terribly.
See ya Dad -
Love you always,
Margaret Flanders

Many fond memories come flooding back to me. How about the party at the RV Center with the dancing. Peter dancing to the Beach Boys,Herbie dancing with Eva.I know the boys better than the girls because of the RV business but our thoughts and condolences go out to the entire family. To Peter and Chuckie, a special thought which centers around our hours working together. Your father was my friend and I loved him like a father. That makes you my brothers and I'm proud of that. Good health and luck. Arnie

Dear Eva,
I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I will always remember when we worked together him coming in checking on you making sure you were OK. The funniest thing you ever told me was when you went over to Seabrook Beach to bask in the sun and Herbie came home not to find you there he would take his binoculars
and look across the marsh and see you sitting there in the sun! That is what you call true love!!

My sympath goes out to the family. Seeing Herbie at my Dad's service and Eva's comments certainly brought back some wonderful memories. I know that Herbie and Bob will be together doing what they enjoy most, watching the races.

Dad, there are so many emotions going thru me I don't know how to explain them all. You have molded so much of the person I am from the work ethic you taught me to always being there for the kids.I don't know how you found the time for it all.I remember you would tell me that time waits for no one and to keep going.I have learned so much from you and your memories will last me my life time. We pinned a name on you years ago. we would call you hundred dollar Herbie because everything you did you would charge a hundred dollars, well dad you did alot because you are the richest man I know. Another thing you taught me was the love for your father because boy did you love grampa and I know it's the same love and respect I have for you.As you meet him again it gives me comfort that I too will see you again. Your loving son Biffa

Herbie, Well first thing, your name it fits you "the love bug". Smart, whitty and full of surprises. I learned so much from you. You are an inspiration. Even though you will not be here in body to assist me to my first horse race I know you will be there in spirit. As you used to say "god is great", "beer is good" although you didn't drink "people are crazy" i now understand what this means after meeting you. You can rest now, with love
